I was commisioned to make an artwork for HK Grafisk Kommunikation, an organisation resembling AIGA in Denmark.
The gigantic bead board was created as a collaborative piece, between me and the participants at the 2017 Future Convention. The piece was drawn and conceptualized by me, and each participant then laid a letter each. They had the choice between a letter of 1 sheet (729 beads), 2 sheets (1,512 beads), 3 sheets (2,241 beads) or 4 sheets (3,136 beads). The remaining approximately 50,000 beads were laid by me.
The overall concept of the piece is that there are limits to what one person can do alone, but together we can create something impressive. Its' lively expression visually communicates, that each person in a community contributes something unique, but together we can become an exciting unity. The quote by Hellen Keller is therefore very appropriate for an organization such as HK, who does a lot of work to secure good work conditions and facilitate inspiritation to their members.
The piece is made of about 120,000 beads and measures 144 cm × 202 cm.
