This project won me a How International Design Award and was a great co-operation with a courageous client. I ♥ Skagens Museum!

I designed the book for an exhibition called Samling & Samtid (Collection & Contemporary). The exhibition marked the opening of a new adjoining museum building, which was a huge contrast to the old building next to it. Within this context, the museum wanted to open the new building with an exhibition that also merged and celebrated old and new. They therefore commissioned 14 contemporary painters to paint within the same themes as the famous Skagen painters.

The overall concept of the book was to literally make it a collection. This is why the book is not classically bound, but held together with screws that can be opened.

The book has seven main chapters that correspond with the exhibition: In the garden, At home, In the open, People meet, Folk & fish, The two seas and Portraiture. For each chapter in the book there is a little surprise for the reader. For example in the chapter 'In the garden', the chapter opens with a small bag of flower seeds, for planting an iconic flower often found in the Skagen gardens, in the era of the famous Skagen painters.

The book also contains all the contemporary pieces by painters such as John Kørner, Eske Kath, Allan Otte, Elin Engelsen (just to name a few) as postcards that can be pulled out of the book.
